How long does treatment take?

It depends on many factors, such as the severity of the problem, the ability of the individual to grasp key concepts, and the motivation to change and face one’s anxieties and fears without using safety behaviors, such as avoidance, escape, and/or rituals.

Research has shown that the individuals who make the fastest progress are those who come to therapy ready and motivated to take action and make treatment their top priority. They are people who are willing to trade some short-term discomfort for long-term gain and improved life satisfaction. They view their anxiety, depression, OCD and/or related disorder(s) as a challenge to continue growing in their professional and/or personal lives, and are looking for the best treatment plan they can find. They consistently go beyond their basic therapy homework, and proactively seek out more and more opportunities to face their fears without using safety behaviors.

Is treatment scary?

Facing fears and anxiety-provoking situations certainly takes a lot of courage, but Dr. Javier will make sure to provide a warm, compassionate, safe environment in order to work towards confronting fears and anxiety-provoking situations gradually. The speed of treatment will be tailored to each individual’s needs and commitment.

Are the services that Dr. Javier provides reimbursable through insurance?

Dr. Javier is an out-of-network provider for all insurances, and his services are reimbursed through out-of-network insurance coverage.  Upon request, Dr. Javier is happy to provide monthly statements that can be submitted to insurance companies as well as health care spending accounts for reimbursement.

How do I find out how much my insurance company will reimburse me for your service if I use my out-of-network benefits?

If you would like to find out how much your insurance carrier will reimburse you for out-of-network benefits, Dr. Javier recommends calling the company and asking them how much they will reimburse for individual psychotherapy. Reimbursement rates from insurance plans vary widely from the entire fee to a small portion of the fee. You can inquire about the reimbursement rate from your insurance carrier by asking what percentage they reimburse for a 45-minute psychotherapy session with a licensed psychologist (CPT-code 90834). The percentage they quote you will be based on the zip code you have your session in (i.e., 10017 for Dr. Javier’s office). You should also ask what the "usual and customary rate" is according to your insurance company as that is the rate upon which they will base their reimbursement, as well as if there is a deductible.

How is payment made?

Payment is made at the beginning of each session, unless other arrangements are made. Payment can be made by cash, check, credit card, or Zelle.
